Twelfth Night, named for the twelfth night after Christmas, is a delightful exploration of love and power. The Countess Olivia, who runs her own household, catches the eye of Duke Orsino. Joining the fray are Malvolio, her snobbish steward, and Sir Andrew Aguecheek, another suitor. Then, the twins Viola and Sebastian crash into the scene, each believing the other has perished in a shipwreck. Viola cleverly disguises herself as a male page and starts working for Orsino. Orsino sends her to Olivia as his emissary, but Olivia is instantly smitten with the messenger. The play weaves these relationships together, creating a complex tapestry that is then beautifully unraveled.
We’re thrilled to once again bring five brand-new musicals to our Black Box Theatre! These shows are the inspiration of students from the Tisch School of the Arts’ Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at New York University, and they’re being performed by our very own musical theatre students. This fantastic collaboration with NYU will be staged and musically directed by NDavid Williams.
Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the famous Victor Frankenstein, inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of his hunchbacked sidekick, Igor, and his tall lab assistant, Inga, Frederick steps into the shoes of his ancestors as a mad scientist. “It’s alive!” he shouts as he brings to life a creature that’s just as amazing as his grandfather’s. Of course, the monster eventually escapes, and the fun never stops!
